Grain Unloading Pit
PSSILO Grain Unloading Pits are designed for fast, controlled and efficient receiving of grain and bulk agricultural products from trucks and other road vehicles.
The unloading pit forms the first stage of the grain intake system, allowing incoming material to be discharged into the receiving hopper and transferred continuously to downstream conveying, cleaning, drying or storage equipment.
Each system is engineered according to the required intake capacity, vehicle type, product characteristics, site layout and downstream process requirements.
FAST & EFFICIENT TRUCK UNLOADING
Efficient grain receiving is essential for reducing truck waiting time and maintaining continuous material flow during high-volume intake periods.
The unloading pit allows grain to be discharged from the vehicle directly into the receiving system and transferred to the next processing or storage stage through integrated conveying equipment.
Pit dimensions and conveying capacity are selected according to the required unloading rate and overall plant capacity.
HEAVY-DUTY DRIVE-OVER DESIGN
The receiving pit can be equipped with heavy-duty drive-over grating designed for vehicle traffic during unloading operations.
The grating and supporting structure are engineered according to project-specific vehicle and structural loads.
This configuration allows trucks to position directly above the receiving area for efficient grain discharge while maintaining a practical operating surface around the intake point.
GALVANIZED STEEL HOPPER
The receiving hopper can be manufactured using durable galvanized steel components to provide reliable performance under demanding grain handling conditions.
The hopper geometry is configured according to the product characteristics, required intake capacity and conveying system installed beneath the pit.
Bolted construction can be used according to the final project configuration to facilitate installation and maintenance.
PROJECT-SPECIFIC CAPACITY & DIMENSIONS
The required size of a grain unloading pit depends on much more than the nominal capacity of the receiving hopper.
PSSILO evaluates:
- Required intake capacity
- Truck type and unloading method
- Grain type
- Product bulk density
- Peak receiving volume
- Required unloading time
- Conveyor capacity
- Bucket elevator capacity
- Site layout
- Downstream cleaning, drying and storage capacity
This ensures that the intake system is correctly matched with the rest of the facility and helps prevent bottlenecks at the receiving point.
INTEGRATED CONVEYING SYSTEM
The unloading pit can be integrated directly with PSSILO grain handling equipment to provide continuous product transfer from the receiving point.
Depending on the project, the system can include:
- Chain conveyors
- Belt conveyors
- Screw conveyors
- Bucket elevators
- Distribution equipment
- Gates and flow control equipment
The conveying system is selected according to the required capacity, product characteristics and plant layout.
DUST & ASPIRATION CONTROL
Truck unloading can generate significant dust, particularly during rapid grain receiving operations.
According to project requirements, the unloading pit can be integrated with aspiration and dust collection systems to capture airborne dust around the receiving area and transfer points.
The aspiration system can be coordinated with the pit, conveyors and bucket elevators as part of the complete grain intake design.
AUTOMATION & INTERLOCKING
The Grain Unloading Pit can be integrated with the plant PLC & SCADA automation system.
Depending on project requirements, automation can coordinate:
- Receiving conveyors
- Bucket elevators
- Gates and distributors
- Cleaning equipment
- Dust aspiration
- Silo filling routes
- Equipment status and alarms
- Equipment interlocking
This allows the complete receiving line to operate as one coordinated material flow system.
COMPLETE GRAIN INTAKE SYSTEM
PSSILO can integrate the Grain Unloading Pit into a complete grain receiving line including:
- Truck unloading pit
- Chain or belt conveyors
- Bucket elevators
- Pre-cleaners and grain cleaners
- Dust collection and aspiration
- Grain dryers
- Distribution systems
- Storage silos
- PLC & SCADA automation
By engineering the receiving pit together with downstream equipment, the intake capacity can be coordinated with the actual capacity of the complete facility.
WHY PSSILO?
A high-capacity unloading pit alone does not guarantee a high-capacity grain intake system.
The actual receiving capacity depends on the complete material flow from truck discharge and the receiving hopper to conveyors, bucket elevators, cleaning equipment and final storage.
PSSILO evaluates the entire process when designing the grain intake system, allowing pit dimensions, conveying capacity and downstream equipment to be selected as one integrated solution.
This approach helps create faster truck unloading, continuous grain flow and more efficient operation throughout the receiving process.
